Getting started

How does MediTours work?
In five steps: (1) browse verified doctors and transparent prices, (2) request a free video consultation, (3) pay a refundable deposit into escrow, (4) travel and complete your treatment, and (5) the escrow releases to the doctor only after you confirm care was delivered. Every booking includes post-op telemedicine follow-up.
Which countries and cities do you cover?
We currently operate across Mexico, Colombia and Costa Rica — 28 cities in total. Each city has a local operations team and at least one bilingual concierge to help with appointments, transport and recovery.
How much can I save compared with the US?
Most patients save 50–80% versus US list prices on the same materials and equipment. Every quote is itemized and locked at booking — no surprise upcharges.
How do I choose the right specialist?
Use our free concierge chat — describe your condition in plain language and a coordinator recommends the right specialty and connects you with board-certified doctors who have treated similar cases. If you already have a diagnosis, search by procedure on Find a Doctor.

Doctors & quality

Are the doctors verified and board-certified?
Yes. Every doctor in our network holds a cédula profesional (national medical license) plus specialty board certification from the relevant national council. We verify credentials, hospital privileges and malpractice history before listing any provider — and every review is tied to a completed booking, never anonymous spam.
Can I get a second opinion before I travel?
Absolutely. Every booking includes a free video consultation with the doctor before you commit to travel. You can also request a paid second-opinion video call ($90) with a different specialist — useful before any major procedure.
Can I combine multiple procedures in one trip?
Yes — combination trips are popular. Common pairings include bariatric + plastic surgery, dental + dermatology, and orthopaedic + physical therapy. Your coordinator sequences appointments to protect recovery time between procedures.

Booking, payments & refunds

How do deposits and payments work?
To confirm a booking you pay a refundable deposit (a percentage of the procedure price). The deposit is held in escrow by Stripe — it is not released to the doctor until your consultation is completed. The remaining balance is paid to the clinic directly per your itemized quote.
Is my payment protected?
Yes. Deposits are held in escrow and only released to the doctor after you confirm care was delivered. Your card details are processed securely by Stripe and never stored by MediTours.
Can I get a refund if I cancel?
If you cancel more than 48 hours before your appointment and the deposit has not yet been captured, the card hold is released or refunded automatically. For last-minute changes, or a refund after a completed consultation, contact support and we'll review your case.
How does messaging with my doctor work?
You message your doctor securely from your dashboard. Replies are relayed through MediTours so neither party sees the other's personal email address. You'll get an email notification for every new message.

Travel, recovery & privacy

Do you help with travel and recovery houses?
Yes. Browse vetted recovery houses near your clinic, and your city concierge can help coordinate airport pickup, hotels and transport between appointments.
How long will I need to stay?
It depends on the procedure — from a 2–3 day dental or dermatology visit to several weeks of recovery for major surgery. Every specialty page and procedure listing shows the typical trip length and recovery time up front.
What about follow-up care once I'm home?
Every booking includes post-op telemedicine follow-up with your treating doctor, plus a written care plan in your language. For medical procedures you'll receive an operative report your local doctor can use for ongoing care.
How is my medical and personal data handled?
Your data is encrypted and shared only with the doctor you choose. We follow GDPR, LGPD and Mexico's data-protection law. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

For doctors

How do I apply to join as a doctor?
Submit the join application with your credentials. Our compliance team verifies your cédula and references (typically 3–5 days). Once approved, connect Stripe and your calendar and your profile goes live. See pricing for the platform fee.
