What to expect

JCI-accredited care, US-trained surgeons.

Our cardiology network includes hospitals that hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation — the same standard used to evaluate US hospitals. Many of our surgeons completed fellowship training at Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, or Mayo Clinic before returning to practice in their home countries.

We coordinate pre-operative diagnostics (echo, angiogram, stress tests) before you fly, so your surgical team already has your case file the moment you arrive. Most cardiac procedures are scheduled within 4–7 days of arrival.

Medical advisory: Cardiac procedures carry inherent risks and require thorough pre-operative evaluation. MediTours facilitates consultations with qualified surgeons but does not provide medical advice. Always disclose your full medical history and obtain independent advice from your home cardiologist before travel.

Cardiology FAQ

Questions about cardiac care abroad

Are Mexican cardiac hospitals as safe as US ones?
Our partner hospitals hold JCI accreditation — the international equivalent of The Joint Commission certification required of US hospitals. Many surgeons completed US or European fellowship training. We share hospital accreditation certificates, surgeon credentials, and board certification details before you book.
Do I need pre-operative tests before flying?
Yes — your MediTours coordinator arranges pre-op tests (ECG, echo, stress test, blood panel) at a lab near you before travel. Results are sent to your surgeon digitally. If your case is too high-risk for elective travel, the surgeon will tell you before you buy flights.
What about complications after I return home?
Every cardiac procedure includes a 90-day post-op teleconsultation package. Your surgeon is reachable directly via the MediTours messaging system. We also provide a full discharge summary in English formatted for your US/Canada cardiologist.
Will my US health insurance cover anything?
Some PPO plans (and all major travel medical insurance policies) reimburse for emergency care abroad and, in some cases, elective procedures. We provide itemized invoices in USD with US medical billing codes (CPT/ICD-10) to maximize your reimbursement chances.
How long must I stay in-country after surgery?
Open-heart procedures (CABG, valve replacement) typically require 10–14 days in-country including ICU stay. Catheter-based procedures (PCI, ablation, pacemaker) typically 3–5 days. Your surgeon provides a clearance-to-fly letter and we coordinate a medical escort if needed.
