Are the dermatologists in Mexico actually board-certified?
Yes — all MediTours-listed dermatologists are certified by the Consejo Mexicano de Dermatología (CMD) or the Colombian equivalent. CMD certification requires 4 years of post-medical-school residency plus rigorous board exams, making it equivalent to American Board of Dermatology certification. We verify credentials and clinic COFEPRIS registration before listing any provider.
Is Botox and filler product quality the same as the US?
Yes. Our vetted clinics use the exact same FDA/COFEPRIS-approved products: Botox (AbbVie/Allergan), Dysport (Galderma), Juvederm, and Restylane — all with lot numbers you can verify. The product is identical; the overhead and labor cost in Mexico is simply far lower than in the US or Canada, which is why the price difference is so dramatic. We do not list clinics that use non-approved or counterfeit products.
How do I handle follow-up care when I get home?
Your MediTours coordinator arranges a 48-hour and 2-week video follow-up with your treating dermatologist after you return. For medical dermatology (Mohs, excisions), your doctor provides a complete operative report your US dermatologist can use for scar management. Most cosmetic treatments (Botox, fillers) require no follow-up care — you receive a detailed after-care PDF in English before you leave the clinic.
Will my health insurance cover dermatology treatment abroad?
US health insurance almost never covers elective cosmetic procedures regardless of where they're performed.
